History

Our History

In January 1983, Englewood Helping Hand, Inc. was incorporated by Ministers of 6 local churches, the Kiwanis Club and other concerned residences of our community to serve the needy in our community. Originally envisioned as a location where those in need could receive assistance with food, it has expanded to provide a full range of social services for Englewood’s neediest population

It is the role of Englewood Helping Hand to provide temporary aid to Englewood families who need a hand getting on their feet.  At Helping Hand, applicants are directed toward programs that will optimize available resources while helping individuals achieve independence.

A fundamental goal of Englewood Helping Hand is to proactively secure local services, easing the confusion caused by living in a community divided by two counties. Services, which are funded through both Sarasota and Charlotte counties, are available at the Helping Hand office for the convenience of Englewood residents, making trips to far-off government offices for these services unnecessary in most cases.

We are situated on the campus of the Englewood United Method Church which is on the corner of Dearborn and Pine Street, in Englewood, FL. This has been our home since our inception. We are proud of our partnership with this wonderful church and the surrounding community.

In August, 2022, construction was completed on our new and permanent home, providing us with sufficient space to better serve our community on a going-forward basis and to consider expansion of the services we presently are able to provide to our neighbors whom we serve.
